Purpose of the Fiji Terrestrial Protected Area Framework
The development of a framework for establishing and managing a national system of terrestrial protected areas provides the foundation for an implementation strategy to take the national protected area system to the next stage i.e the actual development of a national system of protected areas.
The framework brings together the existing legal and policy frameworks that relate to terrestrial protected area development and provide a coherent and transparent understanding of the existing basis for establishing and managing protected areas, and by default also identify where further work is needed e.g new or revised legislation, new policies and/or strategies.
The framework also recommends a range of key strategic actions to support development of the national system of terrestrial protected areas.
